New Years is just around the corner, and with an ailing economy Vegas is playing every card in their hand trying lure visitors in. Rooms are cheap, clubs are offering deals, and every store is seemingly on sale. However, if you’re renting a car and then driving into Vegas, bringing in the new year Vegas style will force you to make some detours.
You should know that some half a million people swarm Vegas every December 31st. Traffic, as you can imagine, is horrible. It is advised that you leave early (very early) in order to provide ample time to make it to the strip. Once you get to the strip, you’ll find that it’s closed to through traffic. One of the best thing about a Vegas new years is that the entire strip is closed to automobile traffic, and Las Vegas Boulevard becomes wall to wall people. For you, this means that you’ll need to plan alternative routes. Expect the strip to be shut down about 3-6pm, and add extra time for traffic.
Where are you planning on staying in Vegas? Things become crazy, and casinos begin to overflow with patrons as the clock ticks closer to midnight. Starting around 10pm, some casinos restrict access to people staying in the hotel. If you’re just planning on partying out in the street then there’s nothing for you to worry about.
If you didn’t already know, you are allowed to have open containers on the street in Vegas. Bring the party outside! This is what a true new years in Vegas is supposed to be about - partying with thousands of others and making it an unforgettable night.
